Tesshin was raised in a fishing village along the Lion/Dragon borders which lay on a tributary to one of the major rivers though Rokugan(In what would later become Unicorn lands). Given its remote nature he was trained as a samurai by his father Shuuji, without ever seeing an actual Clan samurai and while there were rumors of bandits from time to time they never appeared. While he was trained well in the arts of the Bushi he never had to steel his discipline with actual threats leaving him prone to gaining a taste for hunting and fishing when he ought to be doing other things. A quiet upbringing all in all, was broken by the arrival of Ronin travelling the reigion looking for others to join the recently displaced Lion, beliving this to be his chance Tesshin joined them and left his village, as well as his parents to aid the Empire.
1. WHAT CLAN DOES YOUR CHARACTER BELONG TO?
A clanless Ronin, he belongs to the wave
2. WHAT FAMILY DOES YOUR CHARACTER BELONG TO?
No family, no clan
3. IS YOUR CHARACTER A BUSHI, A SHUGENJA, OR A
4. HOW WOULD OTHERS DESCRIBE YOUR CHARACTER’S
A fierce eyed, scruffy individual in a faded yellow clothes with bland and grey light armour with no clan or family insignia.
5. WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S PRIMARY MOTIVATION?
Tesshin is motivated by the stories of his father, that a samurais role is to protect those under them just as those above are supposed to protect them, and even those without the protection of a clan or a family who still hold true to the tenants of honour and duty still have a need to protect those that need it and to bring honour to your name. In a time when corruption is rife and many turn to dishonourable actions to make money at the expense of others, the Empire will need heroes who are prepared to stand above the rest, no matter their walks of life, all should do their part to help the Empire when it is in need.
6. WHO IS THE PERSON YOUR CHARACTER TRUSTS MOST
IN THE WORLD?
He trusts himself and his skills, unable to call on anyone for aid leaves few to trust.
7. WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S GREATEST STRENGTH AND
His greatest strength and weakness is his idealistic nature, raised far from the intrigues of real samurai politics, he holds a somewhat distorted view of what honourable actions are. The desire to help those beneath his station may well be looked upon as a dishonourable action by more hardline people.
8. WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER THINK
Bushido is an ideal of action and reaction, a way to look upon his own actions and decide if they have helped the Empire, brining honour to his name.
9. WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S OPINION OF HIS CLAN?
Tesshin has no clan so thinks little of the reputations of how other clans and peoples act beyond what he himself has seen.
10. IS YOUR CHARACTER MARRIED?
Tesshin remains unmarried, though the prospect of marrying into a clan family is something to be looked upon with hope, there are limits to what can be accomplished alone.
11. DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE ANY PREJUDICES?
Tesshins only prejudice is towards those who follow the Gozoku, all whom he has met who followed this conspiracy have been corrupt officials, making their lives easier at the expense of the peasanty, they were not granted this power to abuse those in their care.
12. TO WHOM DOES YOUR CHARACTER OWE THE MOST
Lacking a clan or family to call upon, he owes the most loyalty to the fellow Ronin who are fighting the Gozoku and their leader, Mochiko.
13. WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER’S FAVORITE AND LEAST
His favourite thing is obviously fishing, a life on the road gives not only time to consider the path of a Ronin but also where your next meal will come from, in his eyes its no different from meditation, only it brings a meal at the end of it. His least favourite thing would be visiting large cities without money, everything is controlled by someone far from the opportunities of self sufficiency and living off the land, personal prestige and who you know suddenly becomes far more important that skill with a blade and adherence to bushido.
14. DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE ANY RECURRING
Tesshin frequently scratches his beard when stumped, not able to avoid a proper grooming kit it is trimmed poorly when it grows too long with a knife, frequently leaving it uneven and with bare patches.
15. WHAT ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER’S EMOTIONS?
Mostly Tesshin would be annoyed, working for his enemies in their most visual squad, directly under their command would be something that would disgust him, however in doing so he is in a position to serve Mochiko far more effectively, so it is a burden he will shoulder.
16. HOW WOULD YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE A
SUBORDINATE’S IMPROPER BEHAVIOR?
Any improper behaviour would stem from a lack of understanding of their role and position and the actions that would be expected of them, so a good lecture on the what is expected from them should suffice.
17. HOW WOULD YOUR CHARACTER’S PARENTS DESCRIBE
Dutiful, idealistic, but lacking in ambition. Willing to spend his days hunting in the forests or fishing in the rivers than attempt to advance himself and his position.
18. WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER’S HIGHEST AMBITION?
Tesshins greatest ambition would be to marry into a clan, no more having to be on guard for that squad of Gozoku leg breakers.
19. HOW RELIGIOUS IS YOUR CHARACTER?
Not very religious at all, a lack of clan ideals and traditions leaves ancestors slim in number, while the magics of the Shugenja prove the divinity of the Kami, they seem to be quite content to exist regardless of his actions, so pays them little heed.
20. HOW WILL YOUR CHARACTER DIE?
Honourably, but forgotten.
